Wiggle Worm

This week we have a guest artist, Lauren Michelle Petrick, my lovely sister. She is a studio art major, and this is her original animation. Enjoy!

Foosball Match of the Year

Foosball enthusiasts have been waiting all year for this battle: a match up of the world’s best foosball player, The Top, against foosball’s newest phenom, Carmen. Who has the foosball skills to prevail? Who’s got the kicks to send the other spinning away from the table? This championship match will have you biting your nails right down to the finish!

Note to foosball purists: House rules = spins allowed.

The Snowball Effect

On January 2nd, Lauren, Kathleen, and I made our fourth annual ski trip to Angel Fire, New Mexico. We stayed in my aunt and uncle’s cabin, aka “A Bit of Home”, went skiing and snowmobiling, played games, observed the wild turkey and deer near the cabin, watched movies, went for walks, and of course, played in the snow. This year, when Kathleen went for a walk, I waited for her to return, and when she did, I pegged her with a snowball! This, of course, started the snowball effect…

Talk to Me

This year, one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to have more positive self-talk. I thought I might need to have a conversation with myself to get motivated. I also will read the book What to Say When You Talk to Yourself. Good luck with your resolutions!

All Downhill from Here

My cousin and sister and I dared to speed down the hill across from my grandparents’ house over Christmas. It was a lot more slippery than last year when we went sledding without snow. Check out this picture of snowless sledding:

Kitchen Dancing

Over the years, a crazy tradition has developed in my family: Kitchen Dancing. It’s practiced throughout the year, but it originated over the Christmas holidays when my family gathers together at my grandparents’ house. After dinner, we put a special “kitchen dancing” song mix into the cd player, turn the volume to the max, and the entire family gets their groove on as we do the dishes together.

This year, I discreetly placed my video camera on a high shelf to capture the magic over multiple nights of kitchen dancing. Here’s a peek at what kitchen dancing is all about.

Merry Christmas!

25

My 26th birthday is coming up in one month, so I thought it would be the proper time to look back at last year’s birthday. Thankfully, I carried a video camera around with me all day long. Here’s a peek into a day in my life last year as a high school teacher.

Explosion Day

Last January, I celebrated my birthday all week long. On Day 3, my roommate, Kathleen, and I decided to make something explode. This was just as the Diet Coke and Mentos thing was starting to get big, so we tried that. We called my friend, Darren, who has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and makes a living building machines that burn chicken poo to produce energy, and told him what we had in our apartment. He gave us suggestions on combinations that might blow up, and we gave one of them a try.
