Last January, I celebrated my birthday all week long. On Day 3, my roommate, Kathleen, and I decided to make something explode. This was just as the Diet Coke and Mentos thing was starting to get big, so we tried that. We called my friend, Darren, who has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and makes a living building machines that burn chicken poo to produce energy, and told him what we had in our apartment. He gave us suggestions on combinations that might blow up, and we gave one of them a try.

Ha, I totally forgot about the second “explosion.” That was a bust! It must have been Darren’s fault.

smaller bottle would have done the trick, or more stuff to produce the necessary reaction juice in that huge one.
Nice going, ladies! Vinegar is less expensive than lysol and can produce an interesting reaction with baking soda. Also excellent for cleaning smelly drains. My favorite part? Carlos Vive!!

I think we needed a different type bottle for the second explosion. They are build to handle so much pressure with all the carbonation in there. We needed something less sturdy? Darren, what do you think?
